How would you describe your book?
A rhyming picture book which encourages children to “Love Who They Are” just as they are. They should not compare themselves with others and should show kindness to their friends.
How long did it take to write?
A couple of hours

Why is this book important, and did something prompt you to start the book?
My daughter’s negative experiences with other girls being mean and their own comments towards themselves, like, “ I’m not pretty enough”, “I’m not thin enough”, or “I’m not smart enough”, prompted me as a mum and an author. I wanted to write a story that would make other children stop and think before saying such horrible things and stop comparing themselves to others. There is, after all, only ONE YOU. If this book can stop others from going through the same negativity and suffering, then I will have achieved my goal. More so in this social media world that we now live in, which shows unrealistic lives and filtered photographs
Who is your reader?
It is aimed at 3-8-year-olds.
Why did you choose mermaids?
They are similar to humans but also different, as they have tails but not legs or feet. I wanted to demonstrate the comparison in a fun and engaging way. Plus, I loved mermaids myself as a little girl.
When you are not writing, what else do you do?
I am a caterer, so I feed people too.
You previously wrote ‘Bloofus and Snatcher, the Bad Dream Catchers’. How was it received?
It was very well received and, in fact, gained Amazon bestseller status. I have also had personal messages from parents saying that it has helped children with sleep issues and bad dream experiences. I am proud to say that it has become a firm favourite for some little people.
Would you struggle not to write in rhyme? Does that come naturally to you?
I have written stories that don’t rhyme, but I enjoy rhyming because it helps to keep the listener engaged. And yes, it does come naturally to me.
You’re watching TV and wish you were part of the writing team. What are you watching?
I love watching comedies, but I also like good suspense programmes. So I would have to say French and Saunders or Killing Eve.
Is the book how you imagined it to be?
The book has exceeded my expectations and is much better than I ever imagined.
What was the best thing about working with TAUK Publishing?
Everything from start to finish was professional and author-led. I was included in every part of the process. The attention to detail and enthusiasm from every member of the team was outstanding.
