The Power in the Pieces: A Journey Back to Yourself

In this exclusive interview, author Hayley Wright sits down with TAUK Publishing to share the inspiration, emotions, and truths behind her transformative book Rebuilding Yourself. Through a series of heartfelt questions, Hayley opens up about the quiet season that sparked her writing, the healing journey that shaped her words, and the deeper meaning of what it truly means to rebuild from within. Her answers offer a raw and honest glimpse into the power of stillness, self-discovery, and the courage to choose yourself again.

How did the idea for the book first come to you?

The idea came to me in a season of stillness. I finally had space to listen to my own thoughts, and everything I’d been suppressing — the pain, the lessons, the truth started to pour out. Rebuilding Yourself was born from that quiet clarity.

Did you write the book for a specific type of reader in mind?

I wrote it for anyone who’s ever felt lost in who they’re supposed to be, the ones rebuilding quietly, carrying pain they don’t talk about, just trying to find their way back to themselves. It’s not for one type of person; it’s for a feeling or that moment when you realise something has to change, and you finally choose yourself.

What was the hardest chapter or section to write, and why?

The chapter on grief. My dad passed away ten years ago when I was eight months pregnant with my daughter. Writing that chapter opened wounds I thought were long healed, and even revealed some I didn’t know I had. It made me realise how much grief I’d never fully accepted or allowed myself to heal from.

What does ‘rebuilding’ mean to you personally?

Rebuilding, to me, means coming back to myself piece by piece, truth by truth. It’s not about becoming someone new; it’s about remembering who I was before life tried to change me. It’s the quiet strength in choosing yourself after everything that broke you, and finding peace in the person you’re becoming.

Why do you think so many people struggle to rebuild after hardship?

I think it’s because we struggle with acceptance. Nobody wants to accept pain, loss, or hardship. We want to move past it, not sit with it. But healing starts with acceptance. When we finally stop resisting what’s happened and allow ourselves to feel it, that’s when rebuilding really begins.

Is there a particular quote or idea from your book that defines its essence?

It’s difficult because every chapter holds a different truth, but one quote that really captures the heart of the book comes from Chapter 9, The Closing Door, Open Window: “That window you’ve been waiting to open — the opportunity, the breakthrough — it isn’t out there. It’s inside of you. You just need to believe.”  I’m a firm believer in manifestation, and that line reminds me, and I hope my readers too, that everything we’re searching for already exists within us. You just need to stop waiting for everyone else to stop doubting you and believe in yourself. There is so much power in that.

How does spirituality or faith play into your approach to self-rebuilding?

Spirituality is at the heart of my rebuilding. It taught me the power of surrender, learning to let go of control and trust that even when everything falls apart, there’s purpose in the pieces. My faith isn’t about religion; it’s about believing in timing, lessons, and the quiet knowing that what’s meant for me will always find its way.

How do you make sure your writing feels genuine and not preachy?

I never write from a place of ‘I’ve figured it out’. I write from the middle of it, from the lessons I’m still learning and the emotions I’m still feeling. I don’t want to preach; I want to connect. My writing isn’t about telling people what to do; it’s about showing them they’re not alone.

Did you discover anything unexpected about yourself while writing it?

I actually questioned whether I was the narcissistic one or just surrounded by them. It was a real moment of self-reflection! But what I truly discovered was that the things I’d felt my whole life weren’t ‘overreactions’ or made up. The anxiety, the setbacks, the heaviness in certain relationships, they were real, and they had reasons. Writing this helped me see that I’m calmer, stronger, and more grounded than I ever gave myself credit for. My voice matters and I finally learned to trust it.

What advice would you give to someone who feels completely broken?

Don’t rush to fix yourself. You were never truly broken. Start by accepting where you are, even if it’s messy or painful. Healing isn’t about pretending you’re fine; it’s about giving yourself permission to feel and rebuild slowly. You’re not starting over, you’re starting from wisdom and that’s a powerful place to begin.

How would you describe the book in three words?

Raw. Honest. Healing.

How does Rebuilding Yourself stand apart from other self-help books?

Every chapter has its own topic and meaning. It’s not just a book about confidence, or boundaries, or healing. It’s made up of small, honest moments that were built from years of fear, doubt, and imposter syndrome, and how each of those moments shaped my growth. The first half starts from the ground—the rebuilding—and the second half moves into empowerment, accountability, and becoming the woman you were always destined to be.

What made you choose TAUK Publishing to bring Rebuilding Yourself to life, and how did that partnership shape your publishing journey?

I was actually recommended to TAUK Publishing by a friend who had worked with them a few years ago. I spoke with a few different companies, but TAUK Publishing made me feel like a real person—a writer—not just another number in a system. They celebrated my work, my story, and my journey, and that gave me so much confidence in bringing Rebuilding Yourself to life.

What’s next for you as an author? Any new projects underway?

Yes! I’m so excited to share that I’m expanding on some of the chapters from Rebuilding Yourself to bring even more depth to the topics that resonated most. The first project I’m working on is The Era of Her, based on Chapter 8, which explores feminine energy, how to connect with it, and how to step into the woman you were always meant to be. This next chapter of my writing feels like an evolution—softer, stronger, and even more aligned.
